The City of Gardiner, Maine (www.gardinermaine.com), is seeking qualified candidates for the position of city manager. Gardiner (pop. 5,800) is located near the state capital on the Kennebec River with a redeveloping historic downtown. Gardiner is a full-service community with a council/manager form of government, 57 employees, and a budget of $5.9 million, excluding schools and county government.
The council is seeking candidates with management experience and demonstrated leadership abilities implementing and executing the city’s strategic vision and long-range plans, which were recently set out in the city’s comprehensive plan. The manager is the primary economic development staffer and is expected to deliver recommendations and insight to the city council on a wide range of issues.
Skills in financial management and budgeting, project management, and policy development with an open, collaborative, and transparent management style and excellent communication skills are desired. The council prefers candidates with municipal management experience and a degree in Public Administration; however, individuals with related experience and training are encouraged to apply.
